Frequently
Asked Questions

Q: What is hypnosis?
A: Hypnosis is a state of mind in which your subconscious
mind becomes very suggestible.
Q: How does hypnosis work?
A: Hypnosis works easily, safely, and effectively. By moving
from the beta brain wave level (your wide-awake state) into
either the alpha, theta or delta brain wave level (a more
relaxed state of consciousness), properly worded suggestions
are easily accepted at a subconscious level. These
suggestions then carry over into your daily life.
Q: What does it feel like to be hypnotized?
A: Since most hypnosis (especially when using cassette
tapes) is accomplished through a relaxation process, it
feels very good. Most people feel very relaxed. You DO NOT
feel weird, strange, dizzy, or as if you're in a "trance."
Q: What if I can't be hypnotized?
A: All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, so anyone who has the
desire and is willing to follow a few simple instructions
CAN achieve a hypnotic state. Best subjects have average to
high intelligence. Strong-willed people are excellent
subjects. A very low I.Q., lack of desire, and unwillingness
to cooperate with the hypnotist's instructions make hypnosis
difficult or impossible.
Q: What if I don't go very deep?
A: Depth has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the
therapy. Many people actually seem to benefit more from a
light to mid-range level of relaxation.
Q: What if I get "stuck" and can't wake-up?
A: You can't get stuck. You can generally bring yourself
fully awake whenever you want. A subject who is very deep
may drift into sleep and, if no one awakens them, would
eventually awaken on their own.
Q: Will I remember what happened during the session?
A: Most people DO remember all or most of the session. Some
deep level subjects feel like they've slept and are
therefore unaware of what was said, although the
subconscious never sleeps and hears it all.
Q: Is it smart to let someone control my mind?
A: A hypnotist CANNOT make you do anything you don't want to
do. Your subconscious mind will not accept suggestions in
conflict with your desires, morals or beliefs.
Q: Will I tell all my secrets?
A: No. Hypnosis does not cause a compulsion to "tell all"
nor is it a truth serum (you CAN lie while under hypnosis).
In most sessions there is no need for the subject to talk,
but rather relax and listen to the suggestions.
Q: Does hypnosis always work?
A: In various degrees, hypnosis CAN work for everyone
because we all have a subconscious mind. Hypnosis is a tool
you can use to tap the power within you. For some it works
like magic! Others will find that with patience and
persistence, their subconscious mind can be coaxed into
making the changes they desire.
Q: How many sessions are necessary?
A: Many people only need one session and can use their
cassette tape for follow-up. Certain problems may require a
series of sessions. If you are using a cassette tape as
self-hypnosis without an actual session, you must use it
regularly and consistently (often for a specific period of
time) in order to see results. The tapes come with written
instructions. You are also invited to call our office for
details on specific subjects. |
